Mask and Mold Making Latex NOW AVAILABLE

Posted On: October 27, 2016

We are making strides in the world of Latex, and trying to keep up with the times.  We will be updating our website shortly with all of the new products, If you need it sooner please call the warehouse       631-920-5079

Mask Making Latex

Mask Latex is a latex rubber that sets up as a result of water being absorbed into the plaster mold. Without fillers, the casting latex will set up with maximum flexibility. With the use of fillers, based on clay, varying hardnesses can be achieved. ( HX-407 is our Alternative to RD 407)

Casting Latex is very useful for the production of hollow molded rubber articles, toys, hot-water bottles, rubber balls, imitation pottery, masks, puppet heads, and display articles. It is also useful for coating polystyrene, texturing, and general special effects for theater work.

Mold Making Latex

Natural Latex, which exudes from the Hevea Brasiliensis tree, is a unique mold making material. Its flexibility cannot be duplicated. It is a natural product and its mold making properties are based upon the evaporation of water. Consequently, thin layers are deposited on the object until the mold is created, vulcanized, and backed up.

Natural Latex is suitable for making rubber molds by brushing, or spraying. Our special method of compounding, and its high solids content, permit reproduction of the finest detail. Its major uses are for creating flexible, durable molds for pouring concrete and plaster for lawn and garden ornaments, statues, fountains, and the restoration of buildings.

CAB-O-SIL M5

CAB-O-SIL M5 untreated silica is a synthetic, amorphous, colloidal silicon dioxide that is generally regarded as unique in industry because of its unusual particle characteristics. CAB-O-SIL fumed silica’s extremely small particle size, its enormous surface area, its high purity, and its chain-forming tendencies set it apart in a class of its own. CAB-O-Sil fumed silica is a light, fluffy powder that is white in appearance and is used with urethane's and epoxy resin and RTV Silicone's.
Adding small amounts of CAB-O-SIL to the resin will thicken the materials to make a brush on material or trowel able casting application.

UreFil Fillers

Posted On: September 27, 2016

Here at Silicone and Epoxy Technology we are trying to keep up with the times, and it seems that this time people are looking for fumed-silica! We also know that most people like to do one stop shopping vs going from website to website and hopefully this will be you place to go!

We are a distributor for many companies Smooth-on being one of them, and they happen to carry fumed-silica. They call it UreFil 9, and we have it available you you!

Click Here  to shop our store.

What exactly is UreFil 9 -it is a fumed-silica based thickening agent primarily used with liquid urethane and silicone rubbers for brush on mold making applications. URE-FIL® 9 is added in small amounts to the mixed rubber until the desired viscosity is achieved. URE-FIL® 9 can also be added to liquid urethane resins to create casting effects and to thicken the material for trowelable casting applications.

There are a few other UreFil fillers that you can choose from i will list them here as well as what they are used for:

URE-FIL 3 - ceramic filler which is added to urethane resins and castable epoxies to reduce cost. This filler is speckled grey in color and can give castings a stone-like finish. Recommended starting mix ratio is 1A to 1B to 1 part URE-FIL 3.

• URE-FIL 5 is your best choice for creating a wood grain effect. Note: your mold must reflect the wood grain pattern of the original model. Mix 1 part filler with 1A:1B of Smooth-Cast® 320 resin and cast into mold. After demold, apply wood stain or shoe polish to casting surface to bring out wood grain effect.

• URE-FIL7 mixes well with urethane resins and castable epoxies and will improve dimensional stability (reduce the shrinkage rate of some resins, for example). It is also often added to materials to make them flame-resistant. URE-FIL 7 can be mixed with Smooth-Cast 325 and SO-Strong color tints to create marble effects. The maximum amount that you can add to a resin before compromising the physical properties of the cured plastic would be 1A:1B to 2 parts filler. A mix ratio of 1A:1B to 3 parts filler will make the plastic trowelable, but the cured plastic will also be brittle.

URE-FIL 11 is a fiber-based filler that can be added to Smooth-On urethane and silicone rubbers, urethane plastics and epoxies to thicken for brush-on applications. URE-FIL® 11 can be used with all Smooth-On silicones, including those which do not respond to THI-VEX® such as Ecoflex® 00-30 and Mold Max 40.

• URE-FIL 15 - micro-balloons that can be added to Smooth-On urethane plastics and epoxies to create very light weight castings. Castings which float on water can be created by using proper proportions of URE-FIL 15. A casting resin filled with a large proportion of URE-FIL 15 can be described as a ‘syntactic foam’ . Syntactic foams are non-expanding foams which are stiffer, stronger and more water resistant than water-blown expanding urethane foams of the same density.

So-Strong

Posted On: May 04, 2016

Hello there World!

I wanted to let you in on some of the products that we have and give you some information on how to use them and also the colors that they come in. We are an authorized distributor for them, and would like to help you get whatever you need.

SO-Strong® liquid urethane colorants can be added to any Smooth-On liquid urethane rubber, urethane plastic or urethand foam (don not use with Smooth-On silicones). They can be used to create a variety of color effects for a wide range of material applications. For glowing fluorescent color effects, use Ignite® colorants

SO-Strong® colorants are highly concentrated, offer excellent dispersion and consistent color. A very small amount will color a proportionally large amount of liquid urethane material. One drop will color 1 pint (454 grams) of mixed urethane!

So you say you want MORE color, or you may want a deeperricher look to your project, the more you add in proportion to the volume of liquid urethane, the more dramatic the color effect. Recommended loading range is .01% to 3% of total system weight. Do not overload the liquid urethane system or cure inhibition or oozing may occur.

User determines amount to add; If this is your first time adding color to a urethane system, you may want to test the color effect by adding a few drops to a small amount of urethane material and observe the outcome. It may take a few test castings to attain the desired color outcome.

Color Tints: Black, YellowBrownPurpleGreen, OrangeRed & Blue.

Color Pigments: White and Fleshtone

I would like to Intoduce you to one of our very many talented artists, Fabrice Covelli. He has graciously allowed us to use his photos to show you the prcess of how he uses some of the materials that we sell. Please feel free to visit his site : http://www.fabricecovelli.com/

Here is the product information as supplied to us from Silicone Inc, Description XP-643 silicone rubber is a two-component, addition reaction, platinum catalyzed system that cures at room temperature. It has a moderate durometer, high elongation, superb physical properties, excellent release and good chemical resistance.

Mixing Instructions

Mix 10 parts by weight of XP-643 base with 1 part by weight of XP-643 activator in a container that will

hold approximately 3 to 4 times the volume being used. Stir thoroughly either by hand or by

mechanical mixing. Immediately after mixing, place the material in a vacuum chamber capable of 28 to

29 inches of mercury vacuum. The material will expand to double or triple its original volume and

then collapse. Maintain vacuum for an additional 2 to 3 minutes and remove. Carefully pour the

catalyzed silicone rubber over the released pattern (MR-15 is recommended.)

Cure Sensitivity

XP-643 may have its cure inhibited at the interface between the mold and the master. Models that have

come in contact with tin catalyzed rubbers (the GI-Series) may show cure inhibition at the face of the

mold. This can usually be prevented by thoroughly cleaning the model with naphtha or methylene

chloride, releasing and checking the area by brushing on a small amount of catalyzed XP-643 rubber.

After 24 hours this film must be cured and non-sticky. In the event that the contamination still exists,

the model should be cleaned again and a thin film of acrylic or nitrocellulose lacquer or base coat

should be applied. This should serve as a barrier coat and allow a completely cured mold to be

prepared. Other substrates such as clay containing sulfur or any other sulfur, amine, or tin

contaminated materials will cause surface inhibition and in all cases a test should be run as outlined

above to determine compatibility.
